Felicidades BBRC [Happy Birthday BBRC]

El British Birds Rarities Committee (BBRC) acaba de cumplir 50 años (!). Empezaron su andadura en agosto de 1959 del siglo pasado. En comparación, las actividades de nuestro Comité de Rarezas de SEO/BirdLife son justamente la mitad de antíguas (25 tampoco desdeñables años, 1984). La editorial del número de agosto 2009 de British Birds trata de la efeméride y refiere al artículo fundacional del comité ( en pdf aquí ). De forma interesante, es inevitable para aquellos que tenemos que ver con comités de rarezas, decir en algún momento para tus adentros ‘que razón tiene’ el editor cuando comenta algunos aspectos propios de las labores de comités en estos dias de internet y del ciberespacio blogero. Uno de ellos es la demanda de rapidez de hoy día. Ya no basta con una revista mensual o periódica que publique noticias. Ni una web semanal o un blog que aparezca cada dos por tres. Satellite-tracked Hungarian Saker (Falco cherrug) in N Spain

Romi, a Female juvenile Saker, like Piros, ringed and tagged on 2008 (Source: Saker LIFE project website) Mátyás Prommer has commented in the Raptor Biology yahoogroup the sighting of a juvenile Saker from Hungary in France and N Spain. : ‘As some of you may be aware we are carrying out a four-year satellite-tracking project in order to study juvenile dispersal of Sakers in Hungary and Slovakia . We are in the 3rd year now and we have quite a lot of good data on the movements of our birds. However, this year (probably as the vole population collapsed after the peak) 1cy juveniles started the dispersal sooner as in the last two years and they went further in their first two months after fledging as in previous years. Most of them flew to east to the steppes - their typical habitat. However, not all of them did that. The most interesting move has been done by 'Piros' a 1cy female from West-Hungary! She made it to Spain ! Until now we have only one ring recovery from sout
